If you really want to know American black history then read up on the state of California. To sum it up, just like in New York, there was an affluent and thriving black communities. The system broke it down and reversed the roles and prestige of those with colour. Now the state holds more prisons than any other state. Racism is ripe and blatant. City of love discriminates without batting an eye lash. I have seen this first hand. I have felt the sting of it. What affects me more is to see it through the eyes of my beautiful, smart and BLACK 6 year old niece. She may attend an amazingly intellectual and supported school where little Caucasian and even Asian kids are easily accepted but her blue-black complexion misunderstood and openly targeted against by students, and teachers. My sister saw this early on and has become involved in the schooling of her children and their emotional development. No 6 year old should sit at a table of 4 alone and the teacher allows this. No 6-year-old should have no classmate attend her birthday party. No 6-year-old should ever place Eurocentric ideal of beauty before her own when her own thick African locks, lush dark skin, beaming dark eyes and long legs place her as a beauty queen than a contender. Wake up California, educate your children, and practice equality, peace and true alternatives to rehabilitations than you currently do. Feed the mind of the youth with realism and accuracy of history and uplift them. Who knows you may curbs the system and won’t require more inhuman ways to house citizens #californiaisnotallthatitiscrackeduptobe #educatenotrehibitate #lovenotfear #opendoorsfordialogue #givetheyouthachance

This life is what you make it. No matter what, you’re going to mess up sometimes, it’s a universal truth. But the good part is you get to decide how you’re going to mess it up. Girls will be your friends - they’ll act like it anyway. But just remember, some come, some go. The ones that stay with you through everything - they’re your true best friends. Don’t let go of them. Also remember, sisters make the best friends in the world. As for lovers, well, they’ll come and go too. And baby, I hate to say it, most of them - actually pretty much all of them are going to break your heart, but you can’t give up because if you give up, you’ll never find your soulmate. You’ll never find that half who makes you whole and that goes for everything. Just because you fail once, doesn’t mean you’re gonna fail at everything. Keep trying, hold on, and always, always, always believe in yourself, because if you don’t, then who will, sweetie? So keep your head high, keep your chin up, and most importantly, keep smiling, because life’s a beautiful thing and there’s so much to smile about.—-Marilyn Monroe. #motivationalmonday #lipservice #tonisofia #newdaynewopportunities #nofilter #neverchange #noonelikeyou

Love or hate her. She lived an unapologetic life and paved the way for many women in a male dominated industry. RIP Joan. You were phenomenal!

I like my face when I smile. It shows the world I am alive. I am happy and I am living. “She was a girl who knew how to be happy even when she was sad. And that’s important—you know”—Marilyn Monroe.

Can say it is one of my mantras. F. Scott Fitzgerald just knows how to evoke more than a connection with his reader. Are you living the life you’re proud of?
